Bring High-Density E3.S Gen5 Storage to Standard Dual 5.25" Bays

The CP169-1 is a high-density removable E3.S NVMe SSD mobile rack concept designed to install eight 7.5mm E3.S SSDs within two standard 5.25" device bays. By combining enterprise EDSFF storage with a familiar drive-bay footprint, the CP169-1 allows system builders to integrate high-performance removable NVMe storage without requiring a proprietary front-bay structure.

Each E3.S SSD supports PCIe 5.0 x4 with a theoretical bandwidth of up to 128Gbps. The CP169-1 utilizes four MCIO 8i (SFF-TA-1016) host interfaces to connect all eight SSDs, making it suitable for AI servers, edge computing platforms, data center systems, high-performance workstations, and other applications requiring high-density, serviceable PCIe Gen5 storage.
Standard Dual 5.25" Bay Integration for Flexible System Deployment

Unlike non-standard storage modules that require custom chassis integration, the CP169-1 is designed around the mounting dimensions of two standard 5.25" device bays. This provides system builders with a more straightforward path to adding eight removable E3.S SSDs to compatible rackmount servers, industrial systems, and workstation platforms.

The standardized bay footprint also makes the CP169-1 easier to evaluate for new system designs where front-accessible E3.S storage is required but custom storage cages or proprietary backplanes are not preferred.
PCIe Gen5 x4 Performance for Eight E3.S SSDs

The CP169-1 supports eight 7.5mm E3.S NVMe SSDs, with each drive capable of PCIe 5.0 x4 bandwidth up to 128Gbps depending on SSD and host performance.

Four MCIO 8i (SFF-TA-1016) host interfaces provide the PCIe connectivity required for the eight-drive configuration, while a dedicated ATX 12V 8-pin connector supplies power to the enclosure. This architecture provides a clean and centralized connection layout for high-performance E3.S storage integration.
Tool-Less Removable E3.S Trays for Faster Serviceability

Each CP169-1 drive bay uses a removable metal tray designed for one 7.5mm E3.S SSD. The tool-less SSD installation mechanism simplifies drive installation and replacement while maintaining front-accessible serviceability for multi-drive systems.

The removable tray architecture also supports hot-plug drive replacement when supported by the host system, BIOS, operating system, and applicable HBA/RAID controller. This helps reduce maintenance time in systems where storage devices require frequent servicing, validation, or replacement.
Active Cooling Designed for Dense PCIe Gen5 Storage

To support eight densely packed PCIe Gen5 E3.S SSDs, the CP169-1 incorporates a rear-mounted 80 × 80 × 25mm cooling fan. The internal structure and rear ventilation are designed to promote airflow across the drive area while minimizing unnecessary airflow restriction.

The replaceable dual-ball-bearing fan simplifies long-term service and helps maintain consistent airflow in enterprise, industrial, and high-performance computing environments.
Enterprise-Ready Status Monitoring and Full-Metal Construction

The CP169-1 features a full-metal enclosure designed to provide structural durability for demanding system environments. Each drive bay includes front-panel LED status indication, with green LEDs displaying drive power and activity status.
The enclosure also supports VPP-based host-defined Amber/Blue LED functions when used with compatible HBA or RAID controllers, enabling Locate and SSD Fail status indication for easier drive identification and maintenance.

EMI grounding considerations are incorporated into the mechanical design to improve operational stability in enterprise and industrial system deployments.
