State of the Art Tool-less M.2 Drive Installation

Maximum Cooling Performance

As M.2 NVMe SSDs are notorious for overheating and throttling issues under heavy load, it is essential to have the proper cooling to pair with it. To maximize the cooling efficiency for the best performance, we have developed a dual function high-efficient heatsink lid and include the thermal pad to maintain optimal temperature under any circumstances.
Unlike many generic M.2 NVMe SSD enclosures that use a slide-in SSD design which prevents the SSD from fully touching the thermal pad/metal housing. The ICYNano MB861U31-1M2B's extra-large heatsink lid closes from the top leaves no gap between the SSD and thermal pad to provide the best heat conduction.
In the real-world test, the Samsung 970 Evo Plus SSD runs steadily at 44℃ under full load when used in ICYNano, 18℃ lower than used in generic metal M.2 SSD enclosures, proving ICYNano MB861U31-1M2B offers the best cooling performance in class.

Q: I installed the and the device is connected to my computer, but the drive is not detected.

A: There are some scenarios you can do to rule out potential problems.

Scenario 1 – Drive status LED is not lighting up

Scenario 2 - The drive status LED lights up, but the SSD is still not detectable

Scenario 3 - The SSD and the connected USB port do work normally, but the drive does not show up on my computer after connecting to my computer

Scenario 4 - It has been verified to rule out all possible hardware problems, but the system still cannot detect the SSD

Q: Is there any known compatibility issue between ICYNano MB861U31-1M2B and M.2 NVMe SSDs?

A: The ICYNano MB861U31-1M2B uses a JMicron JMS583 chipset and is designed to be compatible with most of the M.2 NVMe SSD available on the market. See below for the latest known issues reported by the ICYNano users and a list of compatible SSDs.

Note: the SSD issues listed below have only been reported by a few customers. It is still too early to say they are not compatible as the issues may be caused by SSD firmware and host configurations. We are verifying the compatibility with JMicron and will constantly update the compatibility list. Meanwhile, we suggest using SSDs that are known to be worked with ICYNano MB861U31-1M2B.
