ToughArmor MB105VP-B
Rugged 2 x U.2/U.3 PCIe 4.0 Mobile Rack for 5.25" Bay
Product Details
  • The ToughArmor MB105VP-B is a 5.25-inch ruggedized full-metal removable dual U.2/U.3 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD mobile rack enclosure, supporting up to 64Gbps data transfer speeds through Slimline SAS (SFF-8654-8i) connection in a single 5.25-inch (optical drive) bay. In addition, the innovative removable drive tray design allows users to effortlessly access U.2 or U.3 drives from the front of the system.
  • Easy Drive Access
The MB105VP-B is equipped with two EZ Slide Mini removable full-metal drive trays supporting from 7mm to 15mm drive height, making drive maintenance a more efficient and straightforward process.
  • Enterprise Drive Cooling Solution
The built-in 40mm x 20mm rear cooling fan effectively blows away the heat generated by the U.2/U.3 SSDs through the intelligently placed ventilation holes within the enclosure. Depending on the intensity of the workload on the U.2/U.3 drives, the user can adjust between three fan settings: Hi, Low and Off.
  • The additional cooling space above the drive trays allows the cooling fan to exhaust the drive heat more efficiently to prevent the drive from overheating.
  • NVMe 4.0 Performance
The MB105VP-B connects 2 x U.2/U.3 SSD with only a single Slimline-SAS (SFF-8654-8i) to reduce cable clutter while offering NVMe 4.0 transfer speeds up to 64Gbps per drive bay.
  • Packed with Features
The Slimline-SAS and 15-pin SATA power connectors are compatible with cables that have locking latch designs. Once the cables are connected, the locking latches will secure the connections in place.
  • The LED status light in each drive tray gives you the drive status information at a glance. With Active Power Technology (APT), the LED lights turn on when the drive is inserted and automatically shut off when all drives are removed.
  • EMI Grounding Technology
Grounding your drives is essential as swapping drives without proper grounding may damage hardware due to static shocks. With our innovative EMI Grounding Technology, once the drive is screwed onto the drive tray, the drive will be in a constant grounded state throughout the tray, housing, and computer system to ensure your drives are protected from static electrical surges safe during drive swapping.
  • ToughArmor Protection
Ensuring the enclosure can be relied upon for many years, the ToughArmor MB105VP-B can hold up in the harshest environment. It is equipped with rugged, heavy-duty full-metal protection throughout the entire device and drive trays, making it perfect for industrial devices that may require a flammability rating, such as military, medical, in-vehicle computers, and law enforcement industries.
  • Optional: M.2 NVMe SSD to U.2 NVMe SSD adapter
M.2 NVMe SSD can be utilized by the EZConvert MB705M2P-B , which converts an M.2 NVMe SSD into U.2 (2.5-inch) NVMe SSD form factor.

Q: Can you recommend an add-on card that works with MB105VP-B?

A: The following add-on cards are compatible with MB105VP-B. We highly recommend using the official cable for the best compatibility.

We are currently certifying our NVMe enclosure with the major add-on card manufacturers. We will be adding compatible add-on cards to the list.

You can click here to report a compatible add-on card/cable. If you want to check the compatibility of add-on card(s) that are not on the list, please click here.

Q: My NVMe drive did not detect after inserting it back into the device while powered on?

A: For systems that support hot-plug function, while your system is powered on, each drive insertion and removal cycle will require a manual refresh from the operating system in order for the system to recognize the drive.

If you are unable to detect the drive after performing the manual refresh, your system might not support hot-plug functions. We suggest you check with the motherboard/add-on card manufacturer to see if it supports the NVMe hot-plug function.

Q: The mounting screws for the device seem to be too short to secure the device onto my system, what should I do?

A: For computer cases that have a thick metal sheet, the included mounting screws (M3*2.5L) may not fully secure the device. Please use longer screws (M3*4L) to secure the device or contact us at for replacement screws.

Q: Can I replace the cooling fan attached to the device? Will doing that void the warranty?

A: The cooling fan we used has been thoroughly tested with the drive enclosure to ensure it functions properly and supports the fan speed control (for select models). Therefore, we suggest our customers keep the original fan for the best result. However, we understand the stock fan may not be suitable for all the applications, so we elected to honor the warranty when 3rd party fan is using. The warranty may void if the 3rd party fan causes electrical damage to the device, though.

Q:  Which specification should I check before buying the 3rd party cooling fan?

A:The following information is the fan specification requirement and compatible fan models for MB105VP-B

Fan Dimension (LxWxH) 40 x 40 x 10mm 40 x 40 x 20mm
Connector Type 3 Pin Wafer

Q: I feel that the drive tray's upper and lower metal spring is stuck when inserting the drive tray. What should I do?

A: Remove the drive tray from the enclosure and reinsert the tray without putting excessive pressure on the metal mesh sheet in front of the tray. Excessive force on the front metal mesh sheet may bend the top and bottom metal spring, causing difficulties when inserting the drive tray. Therefore, please do not forcingly insert the drive tray when this happens as it may cause damage to the metal spring.
